Copenhagen, DENMARK – 1 Day Itinerary (on a budget)

Three words to describe Copenhagen:

  1. Organised
  2. Sophisticated
  3. Safe

Accommodation: Next House Copenhagen

Transport: Train (interrail pass)

Month: October

*Note: I’d like to preface by saying: I denote this trip as a ‘1-Day’ adventure, as we only spent one full day exploring the city, the other two days were merely just for hopping off and on the train to our next destination.

Day 1:

From Berlin (Germany), we arrived by train in Copenhagen at late afternoon. The hostel was a short 6 minute walk from Copenhagen Station. First impressions of Copenhagen were: clean and efficient. This was such a liveable city. The hostel was amazing too. The bunk beds were like sleeping pods. We popped to the local grocery store and cooked ourselves dinner and had an early night.

Day 2:

I started this morning early at 5am (I had a virtual job interview). I then went to the gym in the hostel (!!!). After getting ready, my partner and I quickly popped into the local grocery store, and then met the guide for the free walking tour in the lobby of the hostel at 10:20am. The tour guide was very sarcastic with an inappropriate sense of humour – which I enjoyed – I thought it was very funny. We walked to the city centre where we waited for the remainder of the tour to join at the ‘equastrian Statue of Absalon’. Then we walked to the ‘Nikolaj Kirke’ (now an arts centre inside a church). We walked down the port street with very colourful houses, called ‘Nyhavn’ and went to the Royal Palace Square.

There, were watched the changing of the guard and learnt some random facts about the houses. We walked to the ‘Kvæsthus Pier’ and saw the Opera House and learnt about The Little Mermaid statue. Then the walking tour ended. My partner and I explored the streets some more. We visited a few cute/unique stores (including a gorgeous Christmas/Department store – sorry I didn’t write down the name). We walked through the King’s Garden and Rosenborg Castle – which was incredibly magnificent. Once we were freezing, we walked back to the hostel, did some more trip planning on our laptops and then walked back to the grocery store to pick up ingredients to cook dinner. After dinner & some down-time, we walked to the Tivoli Gardens – which were Halloween themed at this time of year – they were stunning with all the magnificent lights. It was then bed time for us.

Day 3:

I started off this morning with another early gym session at the hostel, followed by breakfast and coffee in the kitchen. After getting ready for the day, my partner and I left at 9am to head to Copenhagen Station, to catch a 9:27am train to Gothemburg (Sweden) > Oslo (Norway) ~ 3.5 hours total.
