  • If you’re looking for an action packed itinerary in Marseille, this is not the one for you. As far as holidays go, this was a very slow-paced, relaxed adventure, not so much focused on site-seeing, but more enjoying the local culture and laid-back living.

Day 1:

My friend and I flew from London to Marseille, and arrive at 1:30am. We caught an Uber to the apartment. We slept in until 10:30am. The AirBnB was gorgeous, very French, with a coastal & studious vibe. The location was fantastic too.

We walked along the stunning coast line in hunt of pastries, which we successfully found. We then wondered until we stumbled across a hidden spot along the water, at Malmousque beach, where we laid on the white rocks, in-between swimming in the water when we got too hot laying under the sun. Please remember sunscreen!!! (I did not and was kicking myself after getting a terrible sunburn).

After several hours, we walked back to the accommodation and got ready for dinner. We found a small restaurant by the water, where we received a free limoncello shot at the end. We bought a bottle of wine & some cheese, and sat on the beach, watching the sunset. We then finished off our night with some gelato.

Day 2:

The next morning started with a coastal run and then at a bakery with fresh croissants. YUM! We strolled down to the wharf and browsed the local shops, which had some lovely beachy souvenirs. Funny enough, the French President arrived right outside the dock we entered the boat from (tour mentioned at the end). This actually resulted in a slight change of route on the water. The boat trip itself ran from 11am – 4pm and consisted of lots of cheese, swimming and tanning. It was lovely and relaxed.

When the boat returned to the dock, we explored more shops and visited an Irish Pub called O’malley, where we took advantage of the happy hour drinks. We tried a Nutella crepe from one of the night cart vendors. There is a very vibrant night life along the wharf area of Marseille. However, I would be very weary of many homeless people and pick-pocketers that come out at night time in this area, it was quite overwhelming at times. We ended up dancing at two different night clubs in the area (I didn’t get the names of them) – a fun mix of pop English music and French music.

Day 3:

The next morning I went for a very hungover, solo stroll throughout the streets and down to the beach. The streets were so quiet in the morning. After we checked out of the AirBnB, we headed back to the wharf, explored the shopping village some more, and eventually made our way to the bus stop where we caught a bus back to the airport. I enjoyed some delicious soft goats cheese (called ‘Saint-Felicien’, which is traditionally made in the Rhône-Alpes region of France) with crackers. Delicious and simple end to the trip.
